Job Description: Senior Property/Casualty Commercial Underwriter

Role : Senior Property/Casualty Commercial Underwriter, ideally with public entity experience.

Job Location : Hybrid – 1-2 days in the office.

Direct Hire Salary : $90,000+ (dependent on experience and skill).

Mandatory Requirements :

  • Minimum 6-10 years of Commercial Insurance Underwriting Experience, preferably with public entity exposure.

  • Texas Property & Casualty (P&C) license required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Note: Employee benefit/health underwriters and loan underwriters are not suitable for this position.

Job Description:

Primary Purpose: To provide third-party underwriting services, responsible for performing captive underwriting comprising property/casualty including workers’ compensation lines of business with account premiums ranging from $25,000 - $2,000,000.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain strong relationships with agents, brokers, carrier contacts, and internal department personnel.

  • Evaluate risks and exposures associated with underwriting a book of business.

  • Develop new and renewal business quote proposals, maintain logs, and prepare premium finance agreements.

  • Review audits and work with internal accounting and captive management teams for billing and collections of premiums.

  • Provide summaries and projections of payroll reports provided by clients.

  • Perform exposure-based analysis using carrier rating models and negotiate pricing and coverages with carrier underwriters.

  • Support claims and risk control teams with program service issues.

  • Assist in the development and administration of complex underwriting rules and guidelines.

  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to improve risk selection.

  • Act as a technical resource for property and casualty coverage lines of business.

  • Develop and maintain strong external/internal customer relationships.

  • Mentor underwriting staff.

  • Participate in special projects as assigned.

  • Meet underwriting department KPIs established by management.

Additional Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Support the organization's quality program(s).

  • Travel as required.

Qualifications:

Education & Licensing:

  • Bachelor's degree in insurance or finance preferred.

  • Property Casualty License.

  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Captive Insurance (ACI), Certificate in Captive Insurance (CCI), and/or Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) courses/designations preferred.

Experience:

  • Six (6) years of commercial insurance experience in underwriting areas or equivalent.

  • Supervisory experience a plus.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Ability to maintain positive underwriting results while improving the end product.

  • Problem-solving skills.

  • Strong math and analytical skills.

  • Understanding of Captive Pricing Models and Captive Program Structures.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Proficiency in premium pricing and developing loss picks.

  • Strong understanding of captive management.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to create comprehensive reports.

  • Ability to work in a team environment and meet or exceed Performance Competencies.
